2015

Materials: bicycle tubes, bicycle chains + cogs

Model: Danielle Shriner

Molly West is a fictional character created by wearable artist Grace DuVal and author Amy R. Biddle. Blurring the lines between reality and fiction, the two created the character in response to the title of the Uncommon Thread Wearable Art Fashion Show in Baton Rouge, LA. Themed Epilogue,  the show wanted artists to create the epilogues to their favorite novel or author. Together DuVal and Biddle crafted a narrative around the great-granddaughter of the Wicked Witch of the West.

Named Molly West, the character resides in Portland, Oregon with her family who run a local bike shop. To protect her family, who has a potent skin allergy to water, she has started crafting waterproof garments from the bike tube remnants in her parent's shop. She is currently working on her debut couture collection of bike tube fashion.
