caffeinated corsetry
2011
Materials: coffee filters, coffee grounds, paper mache, cardboard
Model: Marla Sanvick
Inspired by the panniers found under skirts in the Baroque era, as well as the tutus of the early days of ballet, this corset aims to combine antiquated garment shapes with non-traditional construction means. Made entirely from coffee filters treated and dyed with coffee, or left in their original shape and used for their pleats, this corset transcends the ideas about what a traditional garment should be made of.
